It looks fabulous and very functional, and I agree about open shelves, you can fit so much more on them. Our house, also 1890, doesn’t have straight walls or floors so getting everything to fit is tricky which we discovered when we did our kitchen. The oven, which burnt everything regardless of the temperature setting wasn’t actually secured in the hole where it was located and every time you pulled on the door handle to open it, it almost ended up sitting on the kitchen floor. The previous owners insisted they never had any problems with it!
I think I've been very lucky on the oven front - even with the problems I've had with my current ones - and that I've lived in and out a couple of rentals when we were in London as I think the worst I've ever had cooked fine, it was just VERY cheap so took ages to heat up (it was a cooker so it was the same for the hot plates) and I always felt like I was holding the handle of a toy oven whenever I opened it!
I was so pleased with how they finally turned out because yes, that is the thing with old houses, whilst sometimes you can make a statement with things that can be changed like paint and furniture, you're just looking after a house that has been there long before you and will be there long after you - long term changes like fitting something like that has to be in keeping with the space.
The vintage single electric ring! And those hand-crafted wooden shelves. Charming!
That ring was an absolute life saver!

Looks absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you! No problem at all admitting to being absolutely in love with it.
It looks great, Rachel! I love the shelves that your dad made. They look like they've always been there.

Thanks for the great tip for cleaning quartz!
Happy to pass it along - it really was a life saver / game changer!
Wow! I love what you’ve done, Rachel! What an undertaking!
Thanks Jolene! It took a long time as we were doing it ourselves gradually, but I'm so pleased with it!
