A pizza recipe that *actually works* in a domestic oven, how to find the best flea markets in France, and probably the best autumnal dessert recipe I've ever written.
I've been really enjoying your content recently, I'm just terrible at commenting as I tend to read them when I'm eating lunch so my hands are mostly occupied! And I know -- I wish I did not have so many client recipes to get through so I could buy more of them to cook with (and to decorate my house whilst they wait to go in the oven!!)
Oh, I’m so glad to hear that! And no worries—lunch should always come first 😉
I’m really missing seeing pumpkins around as decor this time of year…but I know pumpkin puree is available here, so at least I can do some fall baking!
You've just reminded me of the Christmas I spent in Los Angeles where I was getting all nostalgic for home because it just did not *feel* like Christmas so I impulse purchased a jar of mincemeat in the British section of Ralphs and made my Mum's mince pies recipe. Reader? I don't actually *like* mince pies, but it did make me feel better about missing home!
I totally get this! My extended family used to make this kind of awful dish called pretzel jell-o salad for Thanksgiving (as you can probably guess, it is very much NOT a salad) and even though I never liked it, I keep feeling this weird compulsion to make a tray just to carry on the tradition. I haven't yet but I may break down eventually!
I'm with you in spirit if you attempt this! And I'll admit to being weirdly fascinated by some of the 'classic' American Thanksgiving side dishes that sprang out of advertising campaigns for products like stuck - I think this salad is one, alongside green bean casserole made with a can of Campbell's cream of mushroom soup, and sweet potatoes baked with marshmallows.
Yes, it's almost certainly one of those! Definitely a product of the era where everything was packaged and canned, lol. We never did the casserole or the sweet potatoes with mushrooms, but we did have canned cranberry sauce, served in SLICES. It didn't occur to me until much later that no sauce should ever maintain the shape of the can it came in hahahah
Incredible recs, as ever! Adding your rice pudding, the Waitrose beet salad and Anna Jones' pizza to my 'to make' list!
I hope you enjoy the rice pudding (and of course the salad and the pizza... but mostly the rice pudding!!)
Thanks for sharing my piece on the Balkans, Rachel ❤️ and those pumpkins are the stuff of my autumnal dreams!
