I’m not an incredibly intrepid traveller but my husband was going to San Francisco to a conference and I decided I needed a treat too. It was in early October when there were slightly fewer tourists but the weather was still pleasant. What a joy to spend mornings looking at art and architecture then lunch alone in cafes with locals. I was looked after and treated so well. In the evenings I booked wonderful untouristy restaurants and instead of being tucked away in the corner I was given the best tables. A short trip full of memories.
I'm really glad you enjoyed it! And your trip sounds lovely - I loved solo travel, and it sounds like with just you to follow your own whims it makes for a much better experience amongst the crush. I am looking forward to Florence in future, I just think it needs to be very well planned so to find those nice places to eat not designed for visitors all looking for the same thing, and to get to enjoy the art outside peak times.
